about

Songs by Captain Beefheart and Duke Ellington, both of which have the word Rose in the title!! When will you ever find another collection like that? I'll tell you when: NEVER. And you can listen to the entire collection in the time it takes to watch a rerun of Barney Miller!

You can download this music for free. Please take the money you might spend on these songs and go see some live music! Thanks!

by Don Van Vliet 1970 Beefheart Music

This track is a testament that you can find whatever you desire on the internet. I had wanted to learn this piece ever since I bought Captain Beefheart's album, Lick My Decals Off, Baby, when I was in high school. It's not what one normally thinks of when thinking of Beefheart's repertoire. One day last year I decided to look for a transcription of it online, and Presto!!
What a great world.

the trick for me writing a tune like this is to not think about the meters as I'm improvising, until they lay under my fingers. If I try to impose the odd meters on it, it never feels natural. Two Left Feet, from Volume 1 is another example
